Then there are times when the script of our life makes an alteration that catches us unguarded. We do not get to choose, but rather the path is chosen for us. It can come as a result of nothing more than living; no fault, no blame, no rhyme or reason, just life. It is in these moments that we see something within us that we have either failed to see, or desired to hide. We are brought face to face with a “flaw” in our makeup, and forced to master it or become its slave. We call this, The Cross Over.
Jeff “Smooth” Hughes is a local celebrity rapper who is about to become the face of the fast rising Focus Records recording label run by it’s CEO and founder Sid “Vicious” Vic. Vic is the definition of survivor, as he turned his humble beginnings into a powerhouse record label, with a little help from his “other” role in the community. None for his extreme pit bullish approach to business, and his commandment to all who sign with him to “Stay focused, no matter what”, Vic took his dream or running a label and made it respectable. All that was missing was a star to propel the label to new heights. Enter Smooth. Smooth did the unthinkable by bucking the odds and dropping out of high school to pursue his entertainment career. Det. Duane Lewis, is the head detective for a unit that has been on Smooth’s case since he was old enough to steal candy for the corner store, and on Vic since before Focus had its first artist. Lewis, a phenom detective who made his mark at the young age of 21, jumped into the Vic situation with both feet, but in a very untraditional way. He began to earn the trust of the many of the local “powers” in the community, and take them apart from the inside; a process which has taken he and his partner years to do. The last piece of the puzzle: Sid Vic. Lewis has waited years for this moment, but the program is compromised by the one he least expected, Smooth. Lewis is determined to get everything, but is it worth it? The CrossOver. The path has been chosen. Choose how you will take it.
